The government of President Álvaro Uribe began
on Friday the arrangements for the repatriation to Colombia
of former minister and congressman Álvaro Araújo
Noguera, arrested on Thursday in Venezuela, said Colombian
Ambassador in Caracas Fernando Marín.
Araújo Noguera was in Interpol's wanted list and was
a fugitive since 2007, when he was charged by the Colombian
Prosecutor's Office in connection with an investigation for
his alleged role in a kidnapping and apparent links with right-wing
paramilitary groups, DPA reported.
Marín said that the Venezuelan authorities confirmed
that the former Agriculture minister and former senator was
arrested in a National Guard check point when he was in a
vehicle in the Venezuelan city of Maracaibo, western Venezuela.
According to the Colombian diplomat, the politician was transferred
to Caracas, where the Colombian consulate began proceedings
for his eventual repatriation to Colombia.
