Domestic inflation rate up 1.6 percent in February

Economy
The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) reported that the consumer price index in February stood increased 1.6 percent, slightly lower than the inflation index in January (1.7 percent).

In the first two months of the year, accumulated inflation stood at 3.3 percent, lower that in the same period last year. However, the figures show that prices continue climbing, and in the last 12 months they rose 24.7 percent.

Venezuela's inflation goal remains between 20 and 22 percent. However, financial authorities devalued the currency in January and this decision is to impact on economic indicators.

The data issued by the BCV highlights that price increases in February were due to gains in the prices of clothes and footwear, housing service, household appliances, health, restaurants and hotels, transport and leisure.
